CK12 Earth Science for Middle School CK12 Foundation

I am using this text for homeschooling my daughter. Overall, the content is as good as any other text you could purchase on the subject, very comprehensive but understandable. However, this version for Kindle is missing at least one chapter (volcanoes) that is present in the version found at ck12.org itself, and some of the figures are incomplete. The CK12 website has so many resources, all available for free, including this text- with the missing chapter- as well as teachers guides, workbooks, chapter quizzes and tests, unit tests, and answers. They have similar resources for other sciences, math, and writing and more. I commend CK12 for making these resources available, and for free.

CK12 Earth Science for Middle School CK12 Foundation Reviews

I received the electronic version. For the most part, it was what I expected. My grandson uses it but I think it is written above his head and very dry. On some pages it is very hard to read and make out words because they are double imaged, in other words, one word typed or imposed over another word. The book is very informative but hard to keep student involved or interested in. Maybe a good choice for a high school student in the 11th or 12th grade.
If you're not sure whether you're interested in Earth Science, take a look at this e-book. Skim through the chapters to see if anything catches your attention. Or, if you have children who are interested (obviously, it's written for Middle Schoolers), or if you home school your children, this can be a nice resource to have on the side.
Evan as an adult (almost 40), I love reviewing through these books to keep myself sharp on various subjects. My own schooling growing up wasn't all that great (17 schools in total) so I tend to have gaps in my understanding of various subjects. These books give excellent overviews and interactive learning ideas as well as plenty of references and ideas for how to take the information farther.
The pictures and explainations on the side of text are links they go to videos or other interesting items that help make the science easier to digest. We use our tablets to read our science book. If you want to sit on a hill in the sunshine your science book goes with you! I love these books. And you can't beat the price thanks ever so much and mountains of praise to the group who put this together.
I am so glad I found this (and the other science books). As a homeschooler, science has been one of the more difficult things to teach. Many of the homeschooling textbooks have religious constraints on them that I didn't want and the ones that are more 'secular' are through the roof in pricing - and that's just for the textbook. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is where to find the answers for the questions, I have known them so it hasn't been hard yet, but I need to figure this component out.
I teach Earth Science. I was a bit suspicious of the rave reviews this book received, but the price was right. Well, I agree with the reviews, this is a wonderful book. It's a terrific overview of Earth Science.
It is superior to the Glencoe book used throughout our school district. The organization is good, it follows the basic story of the Earth and the key concepts needed by students. The text is clear, the diagrams are excellent simple, easy to understand and no more complicated than they need to be.
I'm hoping to use this in my class on my iPad and I hope I can get this onto the school's iPads. Well done and thank you.
I am so grateful this foundation exists. I work at a very small charter school that expects great things from teachers and students - unfortunately, we don't always have the funds for great resources. It is a little funny because our school was awarded a nice big technology grant a few years ago so we have traveling iPads and computers and a Smartboard in every room - BUT we do not have funds to have textbooks for every subject. I teach Earth science (which doesn't have a textbook) and I was feeling frustrated that I was having to pull resources from websites and random books. It was taking forever to review sources to make sure they included adequate information at an appropriate level. When I found this book on I thought it was too good to be true but it really is great!! The information provides a good baseline that could be expanded upon if needed. It is easy to read and is well organized. There could be a few more pictures/diagrams to engage the readers but that isn't a big deal.

I would recommend this resource to anyone with access and a need for it!
